Weak management and above; I was discouraged from enacting corrective action or coaching because it was considered too harsh. I was also discouraged from putting too much into employee files regarding the repeated breaking of rules/attendance and/or safety violations for fear of losing associates and/or making the site look bad. My dance was to placate the associates while reporting positive to the leadership above me. My manager refused to hire new associates at a rate that would allow for the necessary turnover because they disliked conducting interviews and going through the processes to bring in new associates. When I offered to assist I was turned down. The teams were kept intentionally small because the manager did not want to bring in the help that would make the right difference and allow for good teams to be built. The teams were allowed to act as they pleased and come/go when they chose and I was charged with enforcing a policy without openly enforcing it.
This company expects a literal 24/7 devotion from its associates and does not endorse any kind of work/life balance. They fully expect devotion to the company above any other activity and does not accept any excuse for not answering phone/text/email within their expected timeframe.
Furthermore, I had to exaggerate to associates and new hires that pay was "entirely up to them" only to have to explain later that they didn't do enough work or that the pay scale was not what they had thought that they weren't entitled to the money they thought they earned. When I tried to learn more about the pay scale I was told that I should already know it and that I had been given all the information available; same as the associates. This company pays based on production (below the leadership level) and they will work to make sure that their associates do not make any more than the minimum to keep them...unless they are the "road crew" which gets paid by the hour (not surprising they are also the best workers for the company). If you can get into the road crew you can make some good money if you are willing to put in the extra time (100+ hours a week, NOT exaggerating).
I've never worked for a company that truly cares so little for its associates. The workload placed on me was a joke with more and more piled on while the manager would leave the site for hours at a time with their friends including shoe shopping and bar outings. Management had unrealistic expectations of when work should or could be completed and actively worked to make sure that I could spend as little time as possible working on any special projects.
ANYONE CONSIDERING THIS COMPANY: expect long hours, with expectations for more hours. Vague direction. Insulting conversations with management and directors. Hypocritical management. No support from your supervisor or above when it matters. Upper management that just plain doesn't care. And unreliable pay checks. If you like to feel stepped on, under appreciated, used, abused, overworked and just generally like the punching bag of a frustrated company, work here...
...If not, there are many other logistics companies that will value you much more!
