A great place to grow

Pros

CardFlight is a great place to grow your career. There are a lot of interesting problems to solve and the company does a fantastic job of supporting professional development -especially for fresh grads and mid-level folks growing their "senior" wings. It's very much a place where you can choose your own level of involvement and stake your claim as long as you can back it up with good performance. Comp and benefits are good too. The annual work trips are definitely a perk. Co-workers are friendly and professional.

Cons

For more seasoned folks, CardFlight can be challenging. Things move really slow, so if you are here to chase that bag 💰, CardFlight will test your patience. Unfortunately, CardFlight is not immune to office politics. So there's no shortage of sharp elbows, sycophants and back-stabbers. If you are good at this game, you can thrive in leadership. Engineering vision and leadership is lacking. There's a lot of hand wringing and over-thinking and no action. CTO seems more interested in grooming people than actual technology. Management tends to weed out high-performers. So the collective average of engineers is pretty low in terms of skill, experience and proactiveness. I wondered about this when I started two years ago but now it makes sense.

Overall Experience

Pros

Great Company Culture Great Benefits Flexible PTO

Cons

Since it is a small company social politics are more evident. Navigating that system is hard because of the power dynamics. Also, pay is not great at all. I barely got a raise and I am doing more work than my salary is worth.

Pros

The interview process consisted of a phone screen, a take home coding assessment, an onsite interview consisting of a mixture of technical/behavioral interviews, and an interview with CEO. Did receive an offer but decided to decline for a competing offer. Overall I loved the company and culture and had a very pleasant experience from start to finish. One of the best interview experiences I had during my job hunt and I would highly recommend giving CardFlight a chance!

Cons

Smaller company so may be hard to be competitive in market against other larger companies even though offer extended was above market average.
