Pros

- Great benefits - Decent pay - Nice coworkers - Not very challenging - Overall I had a great time working at CareFirst. Great place to settle down in your career.

Cons

- Promotions aren't really based on performance, but the amount of time you spend at the company - Slow to adapt to new technology - Lack of learning opportunities

Pros

For almost 2 years I’ve watched the leadership of this company guide the organization through the pandemic, through national/local racial tension and more. There is no better company I would like to be apart of than CareFirst right now. They really do care first. I work in the HR dept. and my team is thee BEST. My boss is the best. My boss’ boss is the best. My boss’ boss’ boss is the best! I am challenged in my work and blessed to lean on a team who is there for me and helps me keep things in perspective. I plan to grow here for a very long time! No job/company is perfect—but this (for me) is super DUPER close! A few Pros: - company culture, values, mission - as a female BIPOC, I feel safe, heard, and valued - while working in the pandemic I feel informed, safe and cared for - autonomy, collaboration and ongoing remote work status - benefits, annual bonus based on performance, annual increase in pay - friendly, brilliant community of colleagues - team gatherings, events (pre-Covid era)

Cons

- often strapped by budgets—can’t readily buy things that are needed

Pros

CF really cares about all their employees. From the top down, there is engagement and communication is superb. Our values, goals, vision and mission is clearly portrayed on a regular basis within this work environment. Ethics are very important and Brian P makes it a point to remain one of the most ethical companies. He drives us in the right direction, reminding us that everything we do is to provide affordable access to care for the communities we serve. Whether you find a job in operations, service, sales, or any other division, you will be happy you accepted an offer to work here. There are volunteer options, trips and many rewards incentives for doing a good job. No crippling pressure to perform either. Pay is good, promotions are available, plenty of PTO, training is constantly provided, and management will generously help you with your concerns or problems. You will feel appreciated, supported and loved in this environment while laying your hands to important work!

Cons

If you are highly money motivated, you will feel capped at some point. That's really the only downside I've seen. Some folks leave CareFirst to work for a broker so that they can reach new financial goals. That's not to say you can't make big time money here, if you apply yourself and work into a VP or executive level position. However, most of our 40-50+ employees work here until retirement, so those opportunities won't present themselves as frequently as other companies.
