Steady work

Pros

It was steady employment. I enjoyed the people I worked with. The work let's you develop a work ethic and a few skills. You also get computer savvy if you weren't before. Built a lot of muscle standing and lifting, carrying, and maneuvering items weighing up to 80lbs. Attire is casual since you are doing labor and get dirty easily.

Cons

The work can be dangerous and no PPE in sight. The pay is 'eh it's a wage' for the type of job it is. I didn't like the meetings where I was constantly reminded how well the company was doing with rising profits and being told how great of a job we were all doing to make this happen while we weren't getting paid appreciated wages. It was, honestly, demeaning and I know that I felt like a fool. "Bonus" was not a word in this company's vocabulary for someone that was in this position. Christmas bonus is a frozen turkey, ham, or $10 gift card to Cargo Largo. They don't realize it, or maybe they do, but this was really insulting to everyone who did the hard work to make this company run 5 to 6 days a week. On another note, see my advice to management.

Thank you for sharing. Our working environment is very unique and can be quite challenging. The position, like you mentioned, is incredibly dynamic, and that is where the fun lies. Every day presets new and exciting tasks. This is one management job that requires a great deal of knowledge, confidence, and ability to plan and execute. We are sorry to hear that you felt as though there was favoritism in scheduling. Our schedules are written in advance. and are made to meet the needs of the business. This means that managers that are more experienced my be asked to tackle a specific task, or an inexperienced manager may be asked to work a certain shift to gain experience where needed. To clarify your comments on HR, we have an open door policy. We make our HR staff readily available to our staff, and we even have a HR representative dedicated to the retail location. We work hard to include all employees, to speak with them, nurture them, be part of their growth, and to share our culture with them.

Some perks, if it's what you need

Pros

The Distro center is located very close to the highway. Once a month, they buy you lunch or breakfast for the all-company meeting. You get a 15% discount both at the Distro and Retail. Items that would otherwise go to Bid Sale are insanely cheap for employee purchase; so if you need things like baby clothes or paper towels, you'll be able to get them cheaper at your job than out shopping.

Cons

You have to "drink the Kool-Aid" to move up, here. Even if you're a good employee, they choose certain personalities to advance. Some people who should have been fired manage to stay and be successful, and some people who should still work here have been fired. It's stressful to never know if it's going to be you, next. It's very much a revolving door. The training also is very poor.
