Pros

Work with very talented individuals Flexibility to work around appointments or needed time off

Cons

Really poor management over the last few years has left the company floundering, led to a round of layoffs late last year, and a steady, high turn over since then - the good talent here has mostly left or is leaving Company touts itself as tech-forward but management discourages telework in practice despite claiming not to and doesn't leverage existing technology because it would rather make its own in-house tools Almost no training infrastructure internally despite being a company that describes itself as a performance-enhancing expert; guess it's a case of the doctor's children Can't seem to streamline its production process to be more efficient and competitive

We have had management changes, but not unlike many firms. The current management team is poised to lead Carney in a very positive and successful direction. The positive momentum is obvious every single day. The team works collaboratively together and has a unified vision of where we are headed. We did unfortunately lose some employees, but our current employees are extremely talented - across the board. We are currently looking to add to our ranks. One of the areas where we are hiring is HR to specifically focus on employee development as this is an area where we want to excel. We do offer development opportunities, but employees are expected to play an active part in taking advantage of these opportunities. As for telework, we openly discourage it so there should be no confusion. We do have some teleworkers, but these are primarily people who have worked here for many years and due to personal reasons had to move away from the Northern Virginia area. In many cases where this happens, we do look to create a telework opportunity. In terms of local employees, we believe strongly that having people work in-person, side-by-side creates the best opportunity for us to create incredible value for our clients. As we begin to integrate video conferencing capabilities for each employee, expand our technology infrastructure, and pursue business opportunities outside of the Northern Virginia area, we will likely have more and more teleworkers in the future, but for now on-site people working closely together is important to what we are building. I encourage this person to provide this and other specific feedback to their manager or HR so we can make Carney an incredible place to work. Team Driven and Focus Oriented Industry Leaders

Pros

This company has an incredibly talented team, that has recently become much closer and stronger and is leading the industry in software training and development. Carney is going in the right direction as far as expanding it's offerings and broadening the types of products that are being developed for our clients. Carney's leadership and management team provide direction, and guidance to their team members through constant feedback and communication. This approach provides the teams with the path needed to be successful in their position and the organization. Successful production team members might find themselves in higher demand, with an increased workload and expectations. In this case, you will also find you are well recognized, compensated and rewarded for your contributions. The company's culture being a smaller company, allows for the opportunity to get to know your co-workers and frequently work with the same teams and team members.

Cons

Carney's benefits package is up to industry standard, however there is always some room for improvement. Improvements could include a health club or gym membership, and lower premiums on medical insurance (although with the new healthcare laws, this may be an unreasonable expectation)

Sound better than they are.

Pros

It's hard to find a reason someone would join this company unless you are unemployed and can walk to work. They have let some of their best talent leave or laid them off.

Cons

They have bad or inexperienced managers who don't effectively manage or communicate requirements. They are trying to get work, but underbid the required time for the quality work expected. They also micromanage your "time" and "billable" hours need to be at least 40.

I thank this person for their review. Internally, we are hyper-focused on feedback, so this data is very helpful in providing us with information to make Carney a valuable place to work – for all of our employees. With regard to the 40-hour requirement comment, like most companies, we do expect our full-time, salaried employees to work at least 40 hours. Employees in this category work, on average, about 43 hours per week at Carney, which we believe supports our goal of a proper work-life balance for employees. For people who desire a different schedule, we offer full-time positions of less than 40 hours as well as part-time positions. All full-time positions, including those of less than 40 hours, come with comprehensive benefits. Employees routinely move between these statuses to find a position that matches their work-life balance requirements as their personal lives change. With regard to the layoffs, we unfortunately did have to make adjustments in the Fall of 2013 and in doing so, were forced to let go of some incredibly talented and valuable people. In looking to the future, the improvements we have made since then are substantial and we are excited about what the future holds. I encourage anyone with questions to email me at hr@teamcarney.com.
