Pros

- They pay their external hires well. - If you prefer to work in a comfort zone and don't like a lot of differentiation between your clients, this might be a good fit. - The hours are about average for a public accounting firm - Good location

Cons

- The work is very simple. I came to CRI from a larger firm, and I emphasized that I wanted to grow my skillset and work on complex projects. After being there a while, I realized that they don't really HAVE complex projects. - They have a poor reputation in the Texas area. Since leaving CRI, I've spoken to two managers and two recruiters from larger firms (including my former employer), who confirmed that they won't hire from CRI. Apparently the work at CRI (not just in Austin, but across Texas) is so non-complex that accountants who leave CRI have difficulty transitioning into other firms. - The benefits aren't great. Just to put it into perspective, health insurance for my family cost $6,500 more per year at this firm than at my prior firm.

Pros

Everyone at my location is cordial to one another so it's a pretty calm work environment.

Cons

The corporation seems to be on the verge of an implosion. Some of the best talent has left, many of the staff are now new and don't know what they're doing, and their fees for clients have SKYROCKETED. The last point is most notable because several clients I personally know have left and several have told me they will not be using the services of Carr, Riggs, and Ingram again because of the massive fee increase for tax preparation this year that no one was warned about before signing their engagement letters.

Pros

Professional development opportunities available through in-house CPE and soft-skills training. Generous health benefits available to employees. Friendly atmosphere facilitated by staff.

Cons

As company has expanded, client service has declined and fewer clients are replacing those lost. The high turnover of tax personnel affects the reliability of the final product. Low morale among tax staff due to questions about company integrity also leads to high turnover.
