Bad management

Pros

Pay is okay and decent benefits.

Cons

Terrible management. Unable to work as a team from one shift to another. Can’t predict what needs to be done even 48 hours ahead of time. Don’t care about employees. Safety is far from first for them. Only worry about numbers built and how busy you look. Bad employees are tolerated every day. Management plays favorites for everything from payed time off to promotions to pay raises. It’s awful.

Pros

You have an opportunity to work in diverse applications - mining, construction, marine, rail, oil& gas, power, paving, etc. Can gain experience in different areas by just being at one company.

Cons

Career progression can be a challenge. Good bonus which is unpredictable, but not a great year performance or pay raise structure - sub par compared to other industries. Lot more conservative in adopting new technologies and more risk averse in trying out latest technology. Like to carry the old baggage with them on new product design and not willing to let go outdate technology.
