Pros

Half-decent pay rate for an economically-depressed area; but only if you are single without children or married and not the primary wage-earner. Even at that, the pay does not justify the workload and conditions of the job.

Cons

Extremely poor employee relations. Complaints, concerns or suggestions are largely ignored. "Corporate" team does not care at all about production staff. Seniority system is pretty much ignored and useless here; despite being a union shop. No raises in sight, yet pay was actually reduced by 5%. Terrible health insurance; extremely expensive with low coverage. 401k is offered but company does not match a single penny. An excessively burdensome attendance policy, especially for parents (we all know how situations and emergencies with children can arise unexpectedly). Company continually pushes more production and more responsibility onto workers to "make the company profitable" without any kind of corresponding compensation, or hope thereof. Too many "Top Dogs" it seems; who just throw scraps to the "mutts" that earn them their cushy jobs and salaries!!!

-There are a lot of decent people that can make the days bearable. -It's easy to figure out the pros because there are so few.

Cons

-Communication is non-existent (and poor when there is communication) -Work/life balance is terrible; I have regularly felt "set up to fail" with the volume of work and the amount of time in the day -Pay freeze for several years - except the cost of benefits keep going up -Benefits package is terrible - no 401k match, the only benefit paid-for by the company is a small life insurance policy -No performance review structure (except when you perform poorly and they want to fire you). If you do happen to get a performance review, start worrying and find a new job. -Business plans change frequently and are not communicated in a timely manner. Not to mention all the work that can go into building and analyzing plans just to find out that the plan has changed once you present your findings. -Cash flow is negative and/or falsely padded by withholding payments to suppliers and adding to the mountain of debt
