Pros

The people are very nice and fun to work with. It's a very relaxed atmosphere. I like the relaxed dress code. I have a lot of freedom to do things as I see fit (which can be good and bad). The company tries to do some fun things for the employees - little parties, etc.

Cons

There is very little clarity on pay - how it is determined and how it stacks up to everyone else. There is also very little in the way of clarity about the prospects for professional growth and advancement. There is a small core of insiders at the company that can pretty much do whatever they want without fear of reprisal. They can work as little as they like and their views and suggestions are listened to.

Pros

I learned a lot about the industry.

Cons

I’m limited by confidentiality agreements from sharing many details, but I wanted to note that my time at this firm didn’t match my expectations. In my experience, the culture felt very insular, and leadership interactions often came across as overly personal rather than professional. I personally found the environment uncomfortable each day, and ultimately decided it wasn’t the right fit for me. Of course, others may have different experiences. I observed frequent reorganizations, which often led to manager changes and employee terminations. It seemed as though HR had too much time on their hands. If you value job security, this firm might not be a good choice. I also felt as though I was mislead about my role — the “flat” org. structure in my opinion is just code for “no promotions or career development.” I also felt as though mgmt. was not held accountable for anything, hence the extensive number confidentiality agreements I had to sign.

Pros

Some very nice and smart people who are, generally, helpful and willing to share their knowledge.

Cons

Too many negatives to share all of them, but I'll try: - Senior leadership is completely out of touch with their team and among the worst leaders l've ever seen in a company. The CEO and his associates are wildly self-serving and aloof. The leadership team’s arrogance is palpable. Managers overseeing the various deal teams are extremely territorial and tend not to play well with others - This is a company where senior executives have lots of meetings yet nobody makes decisions. Lots of discussion about issues but very little problem solving and almost no accountability . - Senior executives are fiercely protective of their income and value of their equity holdings. This is at expense of rank and file employees - I've never seen more of a glass ceiling than at Chatham. So many good people are in a dead end role. MANAGERS DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DEVELOP TALENT - Unfortunately, there is a small group of “insiders” who are part of an outside “unaffiliated “ organization who are largely protected within the organization. This contributes to the perception of divisiveness or cliquishness of the company - Extremely weak communication across business units, even though different business units call on the same clients! This creates tremendous inefficiencies in managing client relationships - There is a general lack of professionalism embedded in the company culture that is misrepresented as part of the firm’s “quirkiness". It’s an excuse for ineffective leadership!
