Part of career plan but not whole plan: earn money/transferable skills and move elsewhere.

Pros

Pays well, can gain transferable skills quickly, set your career up and then springboard elsewhere. When commodity price high, company can wield political and financial stroke making for a workplace that can feel influential.

Cons

Volatile commodity = regular layoff cycles = highly disposable/replaceable workforce. Shorter employment horizon can tend to surface undesirable workplace actions and behaviours. Aging industry with best days behind it. Use your time there to build good skills to apply in new economy industries.

Benefits and flexibility were the best really

Cons

Biased management, gender, and ethnic-based discrimination. Opportunities are not afforded to non-US employees regardless of great performance. Chevron Way only counts when it is convinient.
