Good place to work

Pros

Chevron overall is a good place to work. The pay is really good and the work/life balance is pretty good.

Cons

Almost constant reorganizations. I never truly felt confident that I was going to have a job year after year because you were almost always applying to the job you already held. There is almost a constant shuffling of jobs. They really promote the thought that everyone should aspire to be the CEO of the Company when all a lot of folks wanted was just to be left alone to do the job they liked and were good at. You would be looked at as the SME, the day you were put into the position, regardless of your experience and/or backgrouns.

Pros

- great 401k matching and pension program - work/life balance is encouraged with the 9/80 schedule (every other Friday is off) - ability to move around the company if geographically mobile - good ethics policies

Cons

- long-term incentives makes you have to stay an employee for a long-time to get stock options - top heavy, hard to move up as people tend to stay for their entire careers - slow at decision making and technology adoption - work/life balance depends on the group and your manager - people management gets political - if you get stuck with a bad manager, it is really difficult - failure is not encouraged so innovation is stagnant in my department

Pros

Good people work there, but the corporate culture has lost it's honesty.

Cons

When you get to a certain level, and you mess up the business it goes ignored if you have a good sponsor. They overlook that so that they do not look incompetent to their colleagues.
