      Exit experience in SJVBU (Bakersfield, CA) directly conflicted with advertised "Chevron Way" values structure.

      Pros

      Lots of opportunity if you're willing to stay in Bakersfield or go to Houston. If you're willing to work hard you can rise in pay and standing fairly quickly. Good culture of everyday respect amongst peers, unless you decide to leave the company for a competitor (see cons and advice below).

      Cons

      Extreme variability in how the company's values are interpreted by different business units. HR policies are not consistent across groups. San Joaquin Valley Business Unit makes up its own rules on how to deal with employees who leave for competitors. You are released the same day you give notice if you are headed to a competitor, so beware all the relationships you have built will be severed instantly. Plan ahead and say goodbye beforehand.

      Pros

      Great benefits, good technology, fair pay

      Cons

      bias towards non diversity, extremely hypocritical of what the values say -(there is no Chevron way; its just a statement) Most Management does not care about there subordenants just how they can elevate themselves. Goes through way too many layoffs in cycles, and if you are not a diversity match or in good witht he clicks then you will be let go.

      Pros

      Work with very bright people. Chevron Way. Ability to change careers without changing employers and losing benefits. Management very open and approachable (long way from years ago.)

      Cons

      Can be bureaucratic. Need to maintain staff and programs for the long term.
