Pros

9/80 flexible schedule, one of the few companies still with a pension, strong procedural guidelines for a multitude of process

Cons

Procedural guidelines for every single process. Very hierarchical, I couldn't just email my VP with an idea. Very function oriented, a Finance person couldn't go and do sales mid-career and then do business development and back to Finance, so in that sense you're pigeon holed. Ironically, the company leaders flaunt their "diverse" company experiences.

Pros

In general, Chevron has money to invest in you with training. There are many opportunities to learn about oil and gas if interested. High operational excellence and high ethics in the office. The office environment was very safe and it was encouraged to be safe in all aspects of the job. Ergonomics and preventing workplace injuries was highly emphasized. Was allowed to pursue other career building opportunities and seek training such as Toastmasters. Bonus at the end of the year. Alternate work schedules.

Cons

Sometimes working with people that have worked at the same company for 20 years makes them stale and they have stopped thinking of innovative ways to improve the business. The mindset is to allow other people (contractors, consultants) do the innovating and we just go on with the same old thing. I got really bored because I was a new employee and was not trusted with challenging work and could not be trusted without spending several years to prove myself.
