Pros

Don’t have to work long hours. Culture is generally ok.

Cons

Years behind competitors. Underperformance. Many good people have left. Many slackers around. No pay raises for past 3 years . Hardwork is not rewarded

Pros

- Good WLB, hybrid schedule - Plenty of PTO - Managers are generally good - good for engineers to rest or people with family

Cons

- This firm is not one of the top tier in terms of ability to make money - Firm performance is less than ideal, affecting bonus - Compensation is average, unstable bonus, affecting morale - some competent people have left due to compensation issues - quite high turnover contrary to what others think - finance firms hierarchy is very flat, you can be stuck at senior engineer for 10 years, not much career progression - lots of legacy systems that don’t make sense and needs to be rebuilt due to past mistakes made by people who already left (tons of resources wasted supporting these systems) - firm unable to attract talents due to average comp, thus unable to move forward quickly / strongly firm’s comp cannot match Big Tech

Pros

The work culture was above and beyond the industry prior to 2023, then a CEO change occurred.

Cons

It’s no surprise that the technology stack fell behind the competition. Upper management insisted that risk management and traders were the bread and butter and that technical advantages were not crucial. Well, they were wrong and then decided to let go many technical staff as if they were the problem.
