Pros

There were benefits, I guess.

Cons

Low pay, low “raises” that barely kept up with cost of living, and toxic positivity. Inconsistencies everywhere— the rules were always changing. The goal post was always moving. The goal was always changing. I was hired during Covid as a temporary employee and then strung along for months, and then when I was hired on “for real” my promotion track started there, negating all the progress I made while under contract. I was essentially a level 2, getting paid like a level 1. I was there for 2 years and got laid off in a 2 minute meeting with a crappy severance package, but it’s okay! I got to keep my old slow CN laptop.- newsflash, I don’t care about the laptop, I’d rather have a decent severance pay. The whole time I worked here it felt like college Greek life or a shampoo MLM pushing shady values and toxic positivity. I stayed that long because of the people that were in my direct team, not for the rest of the company and NOT for the “culture”

Pros

- Solid, tenured (for the most part) middle-senior leadership committed to helping you grow in your career, and people who love the company (and not afraid to call out BS when they see it)/.. - Minimal bureaucracy, an overall apolitical workplace (when it came to actual work) - Great mission, something to rally behind. People love local restaurants and it was a great place to be - Generous severance. Despite the cons, CN does care about its people and even when they are letting people go they do it with such a soft hand. Many other companies treat employees much worse when letting people go than what CN did

Cons

- Strange day-to-day culture: Some employees are remote, some are near office but most dont show up, and very few are in office. A very segmented workforce. CN was known for having a strong culture pre-pandemic but unfortunately did not push return to office post pandemic which = less in person collaboration and comradarie, which was what made the culture strong in the first place. - Strategic direction for the company is unknown. CN had a strong 2020-2021 merely bc of the pandemic but failed to keep up with its competitors after. It felt like they were throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what stuck (from an employees perspective) - Hyper-political workspace and hyper-reactive to current events. CEO and employees react to everything, from Roe v Wade, COVID, BLM, former presidents, etc. If you are anyone BUT a far left minded individual you will feel uncomfortable to speak any opinion other than the one everyone else has. - Of course the obvious thing: 3 layoffs in 1 year. And they still have the money to lease a brand new office (that no one shows up to) with a pizza oven. Not a great look. - Also, being forced to take the COVID vaccine was not great, especially when companies started removing those requirements a few months after they gave us a deadline....

Pros

Great culture, diverse, upward mobility, excellent benefits.

Cons

BDR is a very challenging role. If you can hit your goals for the first few months, you will be promoted.
