Good Company in the Short-term

Pros

Benefits - 401k matching is pretty good, Employee Stock Purchase Plan is an easy extra 15% of investing, ancillary benefits are good, too - such as the Hyatt layer service. PTO is pretty liberal as you gain at least 3 years of service.

Cons

Constant reorgs put continuous pressure on employees. The culture and decorum as whole when these types of strategies are implemented sink quickly. The only thing that permeates at that point is self-preservation. I would like to give Chubb less than 3 stars but that would be disingenuous of me considering having worked here for close to a decade. But the last ~two years, roughly, has been enough for me to want to leave and remove a lot of the goodwill I thought this firm had made.

Pros

Generous PTO If you have the right manager, tons of flexibility Chubb hires great people, coworkers are fantastic

Cons

Lack of gender diversity beyond middle management, small group of white males are promoted frequently and that’s it No active effort to recruit minorities to underwriting roles Pay has not kept up with the market Return to work execution was horrendous Financial results are so good because they run so lean - there are few “perks” for employees.

Pros

Entrepreneurial mentality Good pay Young, progressive culture - not a given in the industry They hire the smartest people in insurance, so you get to work around other top performers

Cons

Terrible technology. This is industry standard, but Chubb's systems are particularly old Poor training infrastructure for underwriters. The individual 1 on 1 coaching is fantastic, but you have to rely on other people rather than a good formal training program - I did not come in through Chubb's CAP program
