Pros

Very good work-life balance. Also, was a good experience for an entry-level employee. The health and retirement benefits are also very competitive.

Cons

As with all public sector work the income will be below similar positions in the private sector. Leadership will on depend on the elected officials and therefore can change at the next election.

Not a very satisfying job/career, you are truly just a number here.

Pros

If you are out of work, and they offer you a job it is highly recommended to take it. Pay is above min wage, there is benefits with low monthly cost

Cons

Company values are not what they say, most all have continued to adopt that this is the way it has always been, not going to change. The vacation accrual is not good, the shift differential is still only .50/hr, it has been this way for many years, health benefits co-pays and deductibles are expensive and getting higher.

Functioning, but not innovative.

Pros

Nice people who care about the city.

Cons

The status quo is often seen as inevitable--employees don't really believe changes they want for their programs or departments will ever actually happen, due to politics or money. That sort of outlook can really take the wind out of your sails when you're working on a project you otherwise really believe in. As a result, even moderate risk or creativity is not encouraged.
