Pros

Flexible hours depending on position, most positions have union protection, room to grow/advance. Excellent administrative support staff. Lots of good people!

Cons

Lack of clear expectations at times. Lack of structure and plan for onboarding. Confusing HR procedures (entry of time off, sick time, payroll or hours adjustments, etc). Clumsy/inconsistent and/or total lack of implementation of IT systems or policies for routing documents (aka very pen and paper intensive). Other cities I've worked for have mostly eliminated the need for paper routing. The department I worked for had management that insisted on paper routing only. Routing paper creates many opportunities for lost or delayed materials. Leading to inefficiency, delays, and miscommunications. Which I experienced.
