Pros

Decent hourly pay compared to other jobs int he business. Free moves are always a plus. Rarely boring, always on your feet and running about. Great job to get money handling experience. At least when I was there, they promoted from within. If you're in school and just looking for some basic experience, it's not that bad of a job to have.

Cons

They treat all employees like thieves, petty politics. The hourly wage, given increases in California's minimum, is not as good as it used to be. They're not afraid of working employees into the ground. Also, as in any movie theatre, customers can be extremely rude.

Pros

It's fun! The company has excellent communication skills and the pay raises are more frequent than anywhere I've ever worked.

Cons

The majority of the staff was age 16-18 and it, at times, felt a little more like babysitting than managing. My manager wanted to be friends with everyone and when something didn't go her way, she acted incredibly unprofessional. As an assistant manager, there were no benefits until you passed a series of 16-20 tests and that's only if you have been there long enough and worked hard enough to be considered. As an assistant manager, closing and opening the theater was a major part of the position and we were required to work late and alone in the building. I was concerned about safety for myself working in a (possibly) empty theater alone at 2am. There were many instances where people would hide after the last showing to rob the theater once everyone was gone. It was unsafe.

Pros

Free movies. Really the best reason to work for Cinemark/ Century is FREE movies. First job/job experience. Cinemark goes through employees by the season, so for teens looking for a first job it's a good place to go. Work Schedule. You work schedule is generally very flexible and can conform to high school or college students wanting to work 1-5 days per week. Generally shifts range from open - 5, 2-10, 5 - close... but they can also fit you in for a 2-5 work period depending on your schedule.

Cons

-Hourly Pay. Hourly pay is minimum wage at most locations, and most locations honestly expect hourly employees on the floor staff level to quit before giving out raises. -Loyalty. Cinemark honestly does not care how long you have been with them if you are on the floor staff/ assistant manager level. Employees who have consistently worked for the company for 3-5+ years find it hard to get raises or promotions. You will often find employees who have worked at the company for 5+ years(floor staff & assistant managers) and will be making 50 cents more than someone who just got hired. For a company that makes somewhere in the billions of dollars per year, they are extremely tight with money. -Rude Customers. You will find rude customers at all jobs that deal with the public, but one of Cinemarks main concerns is customer service. Most customers who have a complaint will be offered free movies passes regardless of what they are complaining about, and they catch onto this rather quickly. Sometimes you will see that same people complaining about the smallest of things every visit just to get free passes.
