Good first job

Pros

Great co-workers, free movies, 1/2 off concessions, easy work/pretty simple to learn, good first job/it's a good place to start and learn the basics (like being a cashier/working with money, learning to work with customers face to face, etc.)

Cons

The pay sucks, but that's just how that is. Really strange hours--sometimes I would have a shift that was 4 pm - 1 am, then the next day I would have a shift that was 8 am - 5 pm. It's not hard work but it can be kind of gross because everything is sticky from soda or Icees or whatever. You have to have a doctor's note whenever you call in sick, which can be a pain (and can be expensive). In my experience with management, they are much more inclined to believe you are just skipping work (and not that you're actually sick). Also in my experience, the managers will flag you for tiny reasons, so be careful (can you tell I'm a little bitter about one specific experience? It didn't just happen to me though! They flag you for some small reason then they don't give you a reason to explain yourself! This may just be at my cinemark, though). This makes it sound like I hated working at Cinemark, but I actually did like it. It was pretty fun.

Pros

Free movies i guess (unless the movie is pass restricted). Employees are fun to work with and closing is a breeze. Some sort of PTO.

Cons

Company is very strict even with the tiniest of details. Do a refund wrong? Write up. Ring up a coupon wrong? Write up. Ring up and delete too many items? Write up. They are very strict compared to Regal. Seriously, is missing 1 ticket from a refund that big of a deal? This is (for the most part) a high school/college job and you don't want the employees first job to be met with a write up for every little thing. Employee relations isn't good either. I was one day late in enrolling for insurance and the lady at corporate basically told me to screw off. They would rather you don't have insurance which is unheard of at other companies. Too many promotions, merchandise, and changes. For this location - being on the management team was a very negative experience. Negative notes were left for you making you feel worthless, members of management would sit in the office and gossip about employees and even other managers. One manager even decided to step down and be a floor staff employee again because it was too negative/stressful being a manager. Honestly, just work a Regal location - there are several within the area.
