Recently, management at Circle K's Tucson headquarters changed. At the same time, a competing store chain, QuikTrip, entered town, and they're devouring Circle K whole. As a result, the new company motto of Circle K is "Be like Quiktrip, but don't spend any money doing it." They want their thirty-year old stores to look as nice as QuikTrip's, without renovating them or replacing any of their antique equipment. They want their employees to be like QuikTrip's employees while only paying them minimum wage. The management is overbearing, micromanaging, and eager to fire.
Assistant Managers are expected to be available and on call 24 hours a day, but they can't get overtime, so an Assistant might get called on an hour's notice to come work a graveyard shift, and would have their hours cut the next time they worked so they don't recieve any extra compensation for the disruption to their lives.
What makes this all the more frustrating is that prior to the management change, Circle K was actually a decent place to work for. Not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but every problem I just described was created by the new management. These days, if you're in Tucson and want a job, you would serve yourself better going to work for one of Circle K's competitors.
