Pros

- A lot of strong, competent individuals at CircleCI who keep the machine running - Strong communication, especially within engineering and product teams which have always been remote-first. Good Slack culture, lots of both work-related and fun, nonsense channels - Good transparency, better than most other companies I've seen. Weekly updates from various teams/departments, bi-weekly all-company calls, department-led retreats and outings (although they're virtual now) - Pro science, doesn't deny Covid-19 and is accommodating to employees. No layoffs, despite what fake rumors have been spread - Recently hired a lot of engineers and product managers, and it feels like CircleCI's offerings are improving/progressing much faster now - Really great work/life balance. They make it a point to protect people's time and prevent overwork/burn out - Great product. Makes life a lot easier when your company pulls in a steady income and most of your customers are happy - Career opportunities. We're still in the growth phase, so smaller teams losing individuals can be painful. But managers do their best to enable employees and help them grow/transition when asked

Cons

- A few people are militant about their beliefs, and you have to tiptoe around them. This can be a problem at pretty much every company, but CircleCI is unfortunately not an exception. - Still some hubris among tenured leaders. CircleCI could very easily lose its place as one of the top CI/CD tools, and this possibility just doesn't register with them. Luckily, this is limited to only a few people. - Hit-or-miss experience. Some managers are phenomenal, empowering, and accommodating. Others... not so much. If you interview with us, do as much as you can to learn which type your would-be manager is and make the appropriate decision. This applies to all positions and teams. On the bright side, if you get on the right teams, this could be one of the best jobs you'll ever have. - Interview experience is still spotty. Teams are very busy, but we could be better about following up with people and communicating between rounds of interviews. Some teams (e.g., sales) are very good about this. Other teams (e.g., engineering) struggle a bit. - Still not much of a long-term vision for the product.

Pros

Remote flexibility. There are still some truly great people here...for now.

Cons

Leadership does not care about existing employees. They would rather hire several dozen fresh recruits than provide career opportunities for existing employees. It's a revolving door.

A rough ride ahead

Pros

Remote flexibility, some unique and truly wonderful people, CI/CD space is interesting and challenging, shipping Clojure code to production systems, mid-level management has your back.

Cons

Dysfunctional leadership, no macro level product direction, hyper competitive space with no real organization strategy (beyond setting aggressive revenue targets), teams are hamstrung by CYA bureaucratic red tape and politics, technical debt never is allowed to be addressed, business model is entirely contingent on COGS.
