Pros

Cisco offers competitive starting salaries and great benefits. The company provides free coffee, drinks and popcorn. Management is very flexible with the work schedule. Most engineers get in the office between 9-10am and work from home about once a week. Vacation time is generous and requests are rarely denied.

Cons

Because projects are always getting cancel, it is very hard to get a salary increase or promotion since you keep reporting to different managers. Most companies give a 3-5% salary increase if you meet expectation, but I have been working for Cisco for over 2 years and my salary remains the same.

Pros

Cisco pays well and is a very recognizable name in the tech sector that looks good on resumes. The San Jose area is also pretty rockin. Also lots of different areas of expertise to choose from; hardware, software, low level and high level programming opportunities are offered. Plus you get to choose your own team in the Cisco Choice program.

Cons

San Jose is a very expensive place to live and even though they pay well it seems like it is not enough sometimes. It is a big corporation, so it can be difficult to earn personal recognition or advance the ladder.
