Pros

Great people (talented, smart, compassionate, creative, funny). Opportunities to advance. Supervisors care about your well-being and professional development. Organization offers a lot of flexibility and autonomy. Your feedback and input are used to help the agency grow/improve.

Cons

This field is difficult. You have to be disciplined in your self-care practices so that you can successfully manage the work/life balance. For NC Medicaid, you cannot escape having to balance the administrative and clinical (you will help your clients heal and find wellness AND you will have a daily billable expectation and a lot of paperwork).

It's hard work, but it's work.

Pros

Good supervision and support network depending on location. Flexibility with work schedule when it comes to logging work hours. It's rewarding when the families and clients are grateful to have the support network and are responding well to health related services. The pay scale is based on your productivity meaning you can basically make your own paycheck throughout each pay period.

Cons

The billable expectation makes it challenging to acquire incentive rate . A decent majority of the hours worked will be non-billable work (Completing notes, clerical office work, staff meetings, travel time, and more). Non-bill work pays out flat rate however in order to earn incentive wage, you are required to meet companies billable expectation throughout each pay period. Once expectation is met, any additional billable hours will be paid out at the incentive wage. The company seems to put more emphasis on meeting the billable expectation than to provide the clinical services. The job description and pay scale sounds great on the surface although the job as a whole takes much more effort, resiliency, and organization to make the best of position. To simplify things, the pay scale is not worth the mental exhaustion unless you are willing to consistently and significantly exceed the billable expectation throughout each pay period.

Pros

I've worked in various mental health agencies and feel refreshed at how real everyone is. I like that they are real people and show that. I especially like the extra holidays and the fact that my vacation and sick time are separate so if i'm sick, i don't have to use vacation days. I don't feel bad taking sick days for mental health or being sick because i still have fun days to spend. I have friends who work for other agencies and were still going into homes when we were told to start using telehealth. I like that FPS cared for us and the clients to initiate that early.

Cons

There have been some changes in the company lately but i honestly can't fault FPS since a lot were Virginia TDT changes that everyone went through and such.
