Pros

The compensation is great and they do pay you quite well. They take care of your housing and travel costs fairly generously.

Cons

They are very old school. They focus on the number of hours you are on the jobsite instead of the quality of your work and output. Also, there is a very toxic culture. I've only been here 2 years but the things I've experienced have been shocking. My previous company was also a general contractor but they were much more professional. They also expect you to work at least 10 hours per day and don't appreciate it, but always complain if you leave early or arrive late. Expect to work 7:00 am (best case) to 5:00 pm (best case) everyday. Sometimes it can be work, but most of the times it's due to a lack of efficient processes, overworking people, and meetings. You are expected to close the gates so you have to stay until the very last construction worker leaves. Also, it's impossible to take your PTO and even when you do people complain and make you feel guilty about it. I would only work here if you need some extra money to pay off debt.

To do iconic projects, you have to do iconic things. You have to put the work in to win. Only winning teams get recognized for their success. In our industry, the days can be long, but the reward is great, and it is not for everyone. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors. Thank you for sharing about your personal experience with us.

Pros

Good leadership Good Salary and great Benefits Get to work on different and challenging projects. Clayco is at the brink of its apogee and expanding to various locations and markets. Continued growth

Cons

Its not for everyone - Lot of travel involved - moving from project to project every other year. It gets tough for employees with families but Clayco does their part and covers the cost. Frequency to travel home and see your family depends on position and seniority level. Burn out is real. As an industry, its a lot of over time and late work and Clayco is no exception to that. But, there is a weekend rotation to help with it from time to time.
