All that glitters is not gold.

Pros

-Clinc is at the forefront of conversational AI. It's exciting to be part of a growing company with an awesome product. -Individual contributors are generally close-knit, creating a supportive environment (which is the only thing that keeps people sane).

Cons

From the outside, this company looks great. Lots of diversity, growing startup, cool product, big funding round. But once you’re in, it loses its luster quickly, and you begin to question what you were thinking ever considering this place. They can barely hire new people as quickly as others walk out the door. This has and will continue to intensify the pressure on an already-constrained engineering team as they attempt to scale. -Weak leadership with no previous experience in tech startups stifles growth. They only hire yes-men and push away those who disagree with their ideas. -CEOs have such huge egos that they take criticism of being impossible to work with as a compliment, comparing themselves to the likes of Jeff Bezos and Steve Jobs. A little humility would go a long way. -Boys club is strong at this company, and leaders pretend it doesn’t exist, ignoring frequent complaints of sexually-charged comments to both men and women at the company (including comments from the top leaders). It’s actually a surprise that no one has sued them yet. -One of the leaders has been heard speaking negatively and speculating about the sexual orientation of employees. LGBTQ+ folks, stay away. -Bad perks for a startup. Subpar swag, only 3 weeks PTO (which people are discouraged from taking), bad coffee. Bonuses were paid out 5 months late. But good thing they order lunch and snacks every week; that makes up for everything. -Their “open debate” culture is a joke. It’s not a debate when you’re belittled by leadership in front of your peers, and if only their opinion matters. This creates a hostile environment that encourages finger-pointing and blaming others. People are terrified to speak up, and develop anxiety after weeks of starting their roles. -No vision. If you ask 10 different people what the vision is, you’ll get 10 different answers. Their product reacts to whatever customers want, or whatever fire happened that week. No consistency.

Fast-paced growing AI startup

Pros

* The company is on an extremely fast-growing trajectory, so it is quite exciting to be part of it. * The culture is very open and collaborative. People make friends and hang out after works all the time. * We build conversational AI, which is an exciting product itself. Because of this nature of the product line, people spend a lot of time working on things that are quite exploratory and ahead of the curve. * Because the company is growing fast and in a new market, there are always new career opportunities open for employees. I've seen many of my colleagues taking on jobs and positions they've never done before because of personal interest and career development. * Generally speaking, Clinc has pretty competitive compensation and benefit packages.

Cons

* The growth sometimes comes with the expenses of work/life balance, but I would say this is more of a personal choice. In the company, there are people who work all the time and also people who leave their laptops in the office. In other words, nobody will force you to trade personal life for work, but there are definitely people around me who choose to.

Toxic Culture BEWARE

Pros

This company is made up of highly intelligent, genuinely nice people who are eager to work in the exciting conversational AI space.

Cons

The co-founders created a toxic culture that is running Clinc into the ground. On several occasions, one of the co-founders has exhibited belligerent behavior at company-outings often times resulting in unwanted sexual comments to fellow employees. He suggests employees socialize outside of work so he can connect with them better, which isolates many of the women working at Clinc. Many women in leadership roles have left within the past year. Overall, the environment is not conducive to women. Another co-founder degrades employees openly in meetings speaking to their lack of performance or intelligence, most often when the employee on topic is not present. The treatment of several employees has been verbally abusive, demeaning, and highly manipulative. Fellow employees warn against scheduling meeting with the two married co-founders because it will derail meetings and triggers arguments. The lack of company vision and direction is hindering the success of the company as whole. Direction is often given with vague details, impossible deadlines and unclear goals impacting performance and morale company wide. The founders lack of managerial experience, unprofessional behavior, combined with their massive egos are deterring much needed senior leadership. A majority of the company is junior and their feedback is continuously brushed off or put down by the leadership and told they "can't do anything to change it." Past employees are slandered publicly as weak or incapable, but for leaving this toxic environment are much better off.
