Pros

Great pay and benefits. Catered lunches and tons of other in office benefits. It's a fun place to work and coworkers are mostly fun to be around. It's also a place that doesn't seem to have a lot of stress, by that I mean that most employees seem happy and generally do not seem stressed out all the time. There is also a ton of room for growth, it seems like people are getting promoted all the time. Cloudera also seems to go out of its way to make sure it's employees know what is going on with the company, as well as, giving out credit to people in the company who deserve it. It's also a fun place to work as their are always things happening such as get to together's, Cloudera cares community events and Hackathons that we host. It's great to work for a company that truly does care about their employees and their community.

Cons

The only real complaint I have is that sometimes it seems as if there are two different classes of employees, Engineers, and everyone else. With the former getting far more leeway and benefits than all other employees. It's pretty harrowing to see these departments create, bend and break policies / procedures whenever it seems to suit them, with almost no pushback or repercussions.

Thank you for this review! One thing I would like to clarify: for office perks and benefits, we try to customize to that location. For instance in the Austin office people get free parking. In the San Francisco office, Clouderans don't get free parking. Paid parking is not a standard perk in downtown SF, but it is in downtown Austin. For the Palo Alto Clouderans who travel to the SF office, their parking is not covered 100% either when they park in SF even though it is a business travel expense as they can use other ways to get to downtown SF. That's an example of how we trade off perks across the company. We realize employees can feel like there are inequities between offices, but we try to localize benefits and perks to the location of that office.

Pros

Great product and some real visionaries in the engineering team. Great executive management. Good support organization

Cons

Services management is sub par especially the practice directors. They have no clue on how to run customer engagements. I am amazed that they did not groom any internal ones but got external TPS report type managers. The managers have no idea about the product but memorize the animals in the zoo (most hadoop projects are named after animals). Its a sweat shop for the 80% of the foot soldiers except the chosen couple. Your utilization is all they care about.

Pros

I have been at Cloudera for just over a year as an Account Executive. Starting from the Sales Kick Off meeting in 2014 it was evident that there were lots of smart people and that they (we) were all having fun together. Very team oriented feel - celebrating lots of successes vs. the competition. For a relatively 'small' company that is Pre-IPO the executive staff are absolutely polished, professional, accomplished - AND approachable (Had a 20 minute informal chat 1:1 with Tom Reilly, CEO my first night). The new hire training was very challenging and excellent. I had been through IBM new hire training and Cisco Systems new hire training and this was on the same level of quality). I came out of the training very comfortable with the Cloudera, our position in the industry and how we are different from the competition, but more importantly why customers are gravitating to Cloudera over the competition.EVeryone from the CEO and sr. Staff as well as Engineering and Committers, Data Scientist, Consultants (who are frequently contributors or committers) and management from our WW Support organization are all available for customer meetings. The market for Hadoop is really heating up so I am looking forward to the future with the leader in Hadoop! This is a very cool and special time to be at Cloudera.

Cons

Any of the cons have been pretty much start up growing pains (Expense reporting system was poor - but have since switched and if is much easier and reliable to submit expenses). This underscores the feel of the company - being hyper focused on listening to customers and to employees and being committed to making changes to address challenges and continue building for the future.
