Great coworkers, terrible management

Pros

Clover has an exciting product, in a niche that will exist for a long time. The tech stack is very broad, from custom hardware, custom Android fork, web, developer API, etc. With very little exception, everyone at the individual contributor level was great to work with.

Cons

When I left, the management was horrifically bad. People operations was based off of emotions, engineering management was hiring people left and right out of nepotism, and existing managers were demoted, or left.

Huge Opportunity but No Execution

Pros

Co-workers are amazing, they really make this company bearable each day but don't expect them to stay long, this company is really a 'coffee break' for a lot of people. You can immediately see the opportunity for greatness but you also quickly see how the leadership here has no interest in really growing to be a big company. The cons definitely outweigh the pros so lets dive right in.

Cons

When your parent company doesn't effectively communicate with you, it equates to a recipe for disaster. Leadership at Clover behave like high schoolers, talking behind others backs, no leadership qualities and dismiss some of the best talent they have acquired all due to the desire not to grow and stay as a small player in the industry. I had the absolute worst first 90 days, every move made was criticized by leadership and yet no better suggestion was ever offered. I really believe that the ego's here will ultimately be the downfall. People need to get over themselves and realize that its better to operate as a single unit vs fighting every decision made and doing nothing to better the organization. The dead weight here really needs to go. People who dont care about growth need to be gone, they are hindering everyone who actually care about succeeding and its pushing the best people right out the door and to competitors.
