Pros

As a non-commercial bank with focus only on certain industries, it really is about relationship banking.

Cons

The salary is below market though the benefits are pretty good. Incentive structure is heavily weighted toward to the sales side which seems to lead to a lot of turnover in the parts of the bank that are not well compensated (operations, admin). While executive management talks a lot about that the associates are the bank's greatest assets, managements says just as much "if you don't like it, leave".

Pros

Good work-life balance (most people leave the office by 5:00-5:30). Minimum 3 weeks vacation to start and increases each year. Good training budget, but employees must be proactive in choosing opportunities. Relatively small company size allows exposure to upper management. Job security. Good 401k match. Bank holidays.

Cons

CoBank's salaries are below market (when compared to other banks its size). CoBank's office is in the suburbs and not downtown (some see this as a pro) and is very basic (no gym/locker room). Merit salary increases for current employees are small at ~2-4% typically ). Salary does not increase measurably in conjunction with promotions, leading to many of the smartest people to lead the bank and some of the lesser motivated to hang around.

Pros

Strong mission and dedication to that mission. Stable earnings, competitive pay, albeit lower than other banking institutions, but great benefits.

Cons

In leadership transition. A lot of old guard leadership at the top with a new Chief in IT that is just running wild. I don't believe other C-suites have the competency to provide any reasonable pushback to the IT changes. This has led to significant IT turnover, and we now spend more time analyzing/prioritizing then just fixing things. It might be for the better, but right now its for the worse.
