I don’t like the productivity metrics, because I feel like it isn’t a true reflection of what is happening in the store. For example, if I spend time on a project, I usually have less time on the sales floor which is okay for me because I enjoy doing different tasks, however, if I do end up helping one client and they buy multiple items, I end up with the highest UPT because generally speaking, the fewer transactions I help with, the better chance my UPT is higher, which isn’t right in my opinion. Another flaw I find is when associates take products up to the front. I have helped customers who have had products taken to the front by other associates and my name isn’t shared in the transaction. I understand that we get team share, but people really value appreciation and validity, which is not received if metrics are altered.
Another thing I was disappointed in was the sick policy, which is a corporate, not storefront, issue. It feels weird to call two hours in advance (that sounds staged to me), a text message or email should suffice, as I should be able to go back to bed and not wait for the store to open to call out sick. Usually I call out because my sickness caused me to stay up, therefore, calling the store when I finally fall asleep during the night/early morning really rubs me the wrong way.
