Fun job, horrible managers

Pros

Kids are mostly awesome to work with and camps are lots of fun! Curriculum is alright and somewhat helpful

Cons

Managers severely underpaid and did not pay for hours of trainings. Additionally hiring practices were sketchy and wages felt sexist- as an employee who had been working here for over a year, I was shocked and upset to find out when a male classmate no older or more qualified than me was hired and had a starting pay over $5 an hour more than me whereas I, an employee with over a year of experience, was getting offered a 25 cent raise on my already ridiculously low wage if I completed dozens of hours of unpaid training.

Pros

I had the opportunity to run camps that were fun and engaging for kids as well as help them through their journey of learning Javascript.

Cons

I had many managers over the few years I worked there, and it was hard to adjust to their differing expectations.

Pros

Deeply enjoyed my time at Code Ninjas, unlike other coding instructor roles I've had I felt the curriculum provided was really solid and provided a good base in fundamental concepts. My manager was incredibly supportive of employees and created a healthy working environment that is pretty rare to find, especially in this kind of job.

Cons

Minimum wage to start for instructor role

Pros

- Ok pay for 16 year olds - Environment is mostly friendly - Other senseis treat you like a mate - Zero hour contract so very easy to turn down shifts

Cons

- Manager will not like it if: 1) Let the kids have fun (Use unity how its meant to be used, Let the kids listen to music while coding, painting or drawing characters for their game etc.) 2) You are friendly to the kids too much or talk to them for to long (unless you lecture them about concepts) 3) Let the kids have a break (if they are at the centre for more than an hour) 4) Try and liven the place up (the manager loved it feeling like a prison)

Pros

Depends on the location, but for my location: - great helpful manager/owner - good coworkers - flexible schedule - fun

Cons

- minimum pay (but you can get bonus) - short shifts (If you live far, coming for a 4 hr shift is a hassle, I live close by to the center so its very convenient)
