Fun positive place to work. Lots of engineers in our various offices to share with, so there is plenty of assistance and collaboration as needed challenging projects.

Cons

We still have to fill our our time on each project...goes with the industry.

Doing everything right when compared to other A/E firms. Forward thinking without forgetting the lessons learned. Living the lessons learned while still forging new paths.

Cons

Sometimes, when you're on the "bleeding" edge, you get a cut. The key is to heal without losing the lesson.

I like your analogy about the bleeding edge. We try to balance our entrepreneurial spirit and autonomous culture by staying on the leading edge and avoiding the bleeding edge. Less cuts generally, but sometimes we might reach out a little too far. I hear you loud and clear about not losing the lessons. Even as we have transitioned from our founder, Dave Coffman, we have purposefully maintained his influence in our company to capture as many of those lessons learned from the past. Nothings worse than relearning the same lesson. It has always been a goal of mine to not have history repeat itself (at least in my life - business and personal). Medium sized consulting engineering company with a solid track record, employee owned, excellent company culture, and opportunities for advancement. Coffman Engineers feels more like a family owned business with the security of a larger corporation. Diverse market sectors and work types prevent against individual market sector downturns providing more job stability. I have never stayed at a company more than 3 years. This is my 14th year at Coffman. I plan to stay until retirement. Caring and responsive leadership spawned by the founder's vision of a growing company that is not bogged down with unnecessary rules, bureaucracy and drama.
