Pros

Not a huge, inefficient, bureaucratic corporation. Flexible work hours. Good looking, personable co-workers who are decent to above average at math. Pumpkin spice coffee creamer!

Cons

Hardly any cubes have mountain views and the basement dwellers in the corrosion department have no windows at all. The pumpkin spice coffee creamer is powder.

We do strive to maintain the autonomy of the local office to avoid being a "huge, inefficient, bureaucratic corporation". Decentralization takes more effort on everyone's part as it requires reliance on the value of teamwork and good judgment rather than rules and procedures. The powdered pumpkin spice creamer is a definite compromise and may be an indication that our culture is slipping. On the other hand, it may be an attempt to keep another culture from growing. :) Regarding your advice, project manager training is coming your way soon. So look for the upcoming opportunities. Pros

Enjoy coming to work with and for talented professional people. Forward thinking company that understands people make the company what it is. I feel everyone is valued and appreciated, your voice/contributions are heard with respect, and that's just one example of what sets Coffman apart from other companies I've worked for. No complaints about benefits.

Cons

They feed us too much and I've gained weight. No treadmill desks.:)

We do our best to counteract the food pushing with wellness campaigns that encourage healthy eating. We haven't taken the leap to treadmill desks, but I will start looking into those and stop my research on the hamster ball work stations. :) More seriously, I am glad to hear that your experience so far has been a positive one. We are working hard to avoid unnecessary red tape and remain nimble and empowered. If you see us operating in a way that is contrary to this, please give me a call. Dave Ruff - President

Awesome place to work!

Pros

I've worked other places so I know that Coffman is unique. Management spends a lot of time creating a workplace that balances individual needs with company needs. They don't just talk about wanting to be a great place to work, they actually make it happen. We've had quite a bit of growth over the past couple of years and although the overall company has gotten bigger, each individual office retains the local office feel. Excellent benefits, generous leave, and strong leadership mean that I actually like working here and don't have any plans to leave. Plus, I like my coworkers.

Cons

I can’t really think of any cons about working here at Coffman. As is the case with most consulting engineering firms, we have our busy times when we have to get projects out. During those times we have to work more overtime than I like but eventually it balances out. Managers actually care about their employees so will work with us if something comes up and we need to take extra time off.

The part of your comments where you stated, "Plus, I like my coworkers", is very encouraging. You made several comments about our great work place and you gave a lot of credit to the leadership. However, the leadership can only create the environment through decisions and our own behavior. The culture is ultimately established by the whole team believing, engaging, and protecting the environment that we have. So the fact that you like your coworkers is an indication that our culture is pervasive and attracts and retains the very employees that will perpetuate it. You are obviously one of those perpetuators and protectors. Thanks for what you are doing. It is our success. Dave Ruff - President
