Pros

Free soda and coffee! Bullpen style setting with a chair.

Cons

There is not one positive aspect of that place! I am not a bitter former employee. I am an observer of an extremely disfunctional organization that will implode on its self! There stock went from $83 to $18 per share. That should tell you something!!!!

Pros

The pay is decent as a manager, and Cogent actually invests in a rigorous training program.

Cons

The culture is not one of innovation or collaboration. The employees that have done well at Cogent seem to be the ones who have never challenged anything, and they're not necessarily the best performers. "Work from home" is also a four letter word. Also there's no sick time in our region, and we accrue PTO at a staggeringly low rate.

Pros

Pay is ok. Coworkers are great. My manager is great, my director is great.

Cons

Cogent decided that all of it's Austin, TX employees needed to physically be at work during a winter storm and hard freeze where the TxDOT's Austin branch recommended no one drive. We were told to bring our laptops home since we were going to need to work from home that day, and then were informed Monday morning that the Austin office was not approved to work from home. This meant you either had to come in during widespread reports of black ice, or take PTO. I wanted to work, but I didn't want to risk my life, so I just had to take the hit on the PTO. The CEO dismissed us all and admitted no fault, which was upsetting and disappointing. He basically said, "if you don't like it, you should find another job." What a horrible person. I've never felt more unvalued by an employer. Luckily for Cogent, no one who was injured during this is willing to create a legal case.
