Pros

A potential inroad into large client companies (Leave Cognizant ASAP) You aren't unemployed.

Cons

It's a body shop. Clients will view you accordingly. Contractors cannot be trusted with most tasks. You must be siloed (No room for growth) so you don't break anything. Your actual job is to fulfill gaps in the client's grunt work even if out of scope. If you don't, the hammer falls from client and Cognizant. Wages well below industry standards. 1% annual raises only exist because legally they must exist. Takes full advantage of H-1B slave system, where employees' families and homes will be thrown into a furnace if you aren't keeping Cognizant happy no matter what. Employees are complacent in their slavery. Management is just happy to get their extra crumbs and will reinforce the bad culture. C-suite is opaque. If you are familiar with India's caste system you will understand how "lessers" are treated. This also happens in a literal sense, you aren't totally safe just because you are the favored skin tone. Takes full advantage of modern white collar culture. "Your racist actions aren't actually racist if you aren't Caucasian." Expect the uphill battle to be even more steep if you're not Southeast Asian. You will hunt for your own work most of the time. Cognizant is not helpful in any regard. They exist to skim off the top and nothing else.

Pros

Standard SI company. Even tier-2 SI and boutique firms are better. Comp is better but they make you work double the hours.

Cons

Heavy Politics - Culture of pleading than performance and numbers. Onshore delivery capability is weak. Sales leadership is reports into practice delivery experience people who have zero understanding of Sales GTM. Commissions are paid out March every year. If you leave or company does layoff, entire years commissions are withheld. Capped Commissions with fine print resulting in withholding of commission pay on large deals. Consistent Late night hours for US employees due to delivery, bid management and practice in India. 12-15 hour work weeks with no OT for exempt employees. Zero respect for time employee time. RFP process is archaic. No modern sales tools or processes. Alliances and partnerships channel is poor/inexistent. More pomp and show and complete cognitive dissonance from reality.

Pros

They're too large of a company to keep a close eye on you, so at least you can mostly do your work for your client.

Cons

The prior company I worked for was bought by Cognizant during the pandemic. It took Cognizant several years to on-board us, and when they finally did, they considered us "new employees" despite how long we'd been with our previous company. Because of this, we had no banked PTO at the start, and any progress towards job promotions were now irrelevant. Company makes no effort to assist you in finding your next project. They instruct you to apply through their internal job portal, as if you're applying for an external job anyways. Some random workers do submit project leads on your behalf, but I'm convinced they just do this to meet quotas because none of the jobs even remotely match your listed skill sets. They only reach out to you when they actively need something, and often it's to tell you that your just assigned learning task is due tomorrow. Even then your name is but 1 of hundreds in the included excel doc. They're primarily based in India, so email communications and meeting invites tend to be sent around 3 AM.
