Pros

Living in NYC is exciting in many ways.

Cons

The professors are unaccountable to the ideals they are supposed to uphold, commonly committing research fraud and getting away with it due to the overwhelming corruption that spans the professor's self-governance. Furthermore, the facilities for scientific research are poorly managed by the worst bureaucrats that can be found. The problem is compounded by the unreasonably high price of real estate in NYC. Go to any other university for your degree. Any state school with good facilities will outperform this place, its reputation is a fraud.

Pros

The Union benefits are excellent. If you are looking to transition back to work after family leave, pursue your education, or settle down in a comfy job until retirement I highly recommend. Depending on the your office and supervisor things can be quite comfortable. This is to good place to work if you have specific goals.

Cons

Don't get seduced by the comfort. If you are in the beginning or the middle of your career, keep moving quickly. Do not stay in this type of position or you will get pigeon holed. Even for officers, if your direct manager isn't looking out for you, you will stay in the same place for years. You have to make connections while your there and then keep it moving. Everything is very slow to change and highly siloed.

Pros

Many brilliant and accomplished employees at CUMC involved in cutting edge medicine and science. Benefits and opportunities for professional development were good and many programs seemed very well funded.

Cons

My main concern with CUMC involved the culture and atmosphere. Work environment became quite toxic, and in my opinion, unprofessional behavior from a few bad apples was not appropriately addressed or curtailed by management. Many talented people left as a result. This may not be universal, but was a major issue in my department/division.
