Pros

Enjoyed busy periods; some early coworker camaraderie

Cons

I started as a Houseman, expecting to replace a departing employee, drawing on my prior experience at Marriott Grand Residence Club, a 5-star hotel, where Housemen stripped rooms and waited for assignments without laundry duties. At Comfort Inn, I efficiently stripped rooms and waited in the linen room for checkouts, as no radios were provided. However, a head housekeeper criticized me for waiting, despite completed tasks, creating early tension. After a coworker’s brief absence, I took on Houseman duties fully, but their return and another employee’s shift to room stripping displaced me to primarily laundry, except some weekends. The first 7–8 months were manageable, with busy periods enjoyable and some initial coworker friendliness. However, in December 2024, a meeting with maids and head housekeepers turned hostile. Laundry staff were unfairly criticized for not doing enough and told to make beds, which would’ve reduced maids’ hours during a slow season. Claims that room stripping was laundry’s responsibility contradicted my Marriott experience, where it was clearly housekeeping’s role. This meeting sparked a toxic work environment. Head housekeepers became unapproachable, dismissing concerns and limiting communication (e.g., one blocked me, hindering work coordination). The lack of support and appreciation for stocking linen and delivering towels was disheartening. In February 2025, the owner announced hour cuts, citing high labor costs, reducing laundry shifts from 8:30 AM–2 PM to 11 AM starts (~3–4 hours/day). Combined with the hostile environment and my planned relocation, I left after 9 months.
