Don't Trust Them

Pros

Nice office, good location, friendly co-workers, nice benefits.

Cons

Outdated technology, don't expect to learn useful programming skill that will better yourself and put you in a position to do well in the long run. Programming Team Leads are awful. They are good programmers but should not be in a lead role. They set unrealistic expectations and do not take responsibility for issues, instead blaming programmers. The software itself is a mess. Classic spaghetti code. They focus on slapping band-aid fixes on major issues. Testability and Maintainability is an after thought. They may talk about future plans to advance their technology, provide better resources to the low level work force, offer growth opportunities, but don't trust them. They do just enough to keep the worker bees from becoming upset.

Clean office and nice co-workers at the peon level. Makes you rethink your career choices.

Cons

Horrible management, no career path, zero growth potential, out dated technology, out dated processes, zero respect and recognition from management.

Pros

The people are very friendly. It is easy to bond with your team, which is very important. Pay was decent for Birmingham area. Benefits are pretty average, certainly not bad. Free coffee and soft drinks. The building is pretty nice and has a lake walking trail, but watch out for the geese. Good work/life balance. Management realizes that you have a life outside of work.

Cons

Technologically they are very out of date. They are working on transitioning away from using Uniface, although that will take years. Culture comes across as a little old school in many ways. No remoting in from home if you have the flu, so people are always getting each other sick. Their main application is very configuration heavy, resulting in an app that has 1000's of options and flags, making it impossible to account for all scenarios when coding.
