Toxic and dishonest

Pros

Peers are great. Area is beautiful.

Cons

After experiencing first hand how this company handles patients and staff, I would never recommend this company to professionals or patients. The dishonest, toxic culture trickling down from the top is felt at all levels- right down to bedside. This is a for profit company and it is truly felt at all levels. There is no cap on admits - or screening/triaging of EOL imminence- even when there is no staff to care for them. Routine visits are often bumped or canceled to take any admission- especially if they are new to hospice and will gain a good reimbursement. There are 5-10 visits weekly that are cancelled every week because there is no staff to care for them (this typically happens to ltc patients and those who do not have family to advocate for them). There is no continuity of care at all. The territory covers from North Conway to KEENE and your home location makes no impact on your assignment. I put 100,000 miles on my car in 12 months. They promise an area of patient care and disregard it immediately after you join. I had 1 day of training without any previous hospice experience. If you work 7 on and 7 off, get paid weekly a salary rate, and want one week of vacation off, Compassus will require you to use 80 hours of PTO in spite of all other hospices in the area not following this practice. They will also require you to work as backup on call on your week off (even if you were required to use 80h of pto to cover the time off). The turnover has been bad for years- the on call nurses manage full caseloads and have throughout the 2 years I worked there. I had a rotating cast of managers. 4 different leaders overall in 2 years. When I did my first admission, I missed a signature spot and when the directors didn’t get ahold of me on my vacation, they forged my signature. When I expressed my dissatisfaction with this resolution, they told me not to worry about it. Run from this company. In my 15 years of nursing I haven’t worked somewhere more concerning.

Pros

Working alongside community volunteers and their expertise and compassion to those individuals who deserve attention, compassion, and friendship.

Cons

As with many hospices in our current medicalized culture, end of life care brings financial growth to the hospice business. Sometimes the business model weighs heavier than the care model.
