      Stable but backwards

      Pros

      Stable job; many people have been there for over a decade or two. Pretty good healthcare coverage. Good coworkers. Usually laid back. Good separation of work/life. Free turkey for Thanksgiving.

      Cons

      Management makes terrible decisions leading to weird deadlines and confusing release windows. "Customer-driven" work means refactoring rarely gets done. Weird PTO and holiday policies (can't give you Black Friday off, gotta work that the Saturday before) (work from home one day a week, but only Tue, Wed, or Thurs). We never seem to have the equipment we need for development. Recent management change (CEO passed away and everything reshuffled) looks like it's gonna start making things go downhill.

      Small family company, in a tough field.

      Pros

      Was a fun place to work, good people for the most part. You are generally given what you can handle. Benefits are great, relaxed environment, some interesting projects. Salary is lower, but it's made up for with retirement, and incentive programs when things are going well.

      Cons

      Small company, advancement opportunities are limited. For the product they provide, they are competing with some big names, in some niche markets. Very much a niche market, with niche market thinking. Development can be slow, and domain knowledge tough to find (often learned). In a tough time I feel.

      Pros

      I've been here for about 20 years now. The people and the work is great. Lots of good projects. The company has had its ups and downs but the turn around as far as employees is extremely low. The pay if fair (not awesome) but fair. What they make up for in salary is a family oriented style of business where you matter!

      Cons

      Fair salary. Not a lot of opportunities for advancement. You can sometimes feel pinned down to a certain tasks for long periods of time.
