Pros

Best publishing company with a lot of upward mobility. Located in 1 World Trade Center, building has a good cafeteria and new amenities. Good technical support team and training opportunities

Cons

Very low starting salary. Assistants must work for a year minimum before transferring to another brand unless promoted by management internally--however this is standard within the industry

Pros

Market-leading, highly respected prestige publishers of beautiful, high-quality, state-of-the-art magazine properties. Salespeople get outstanding marketing and sales materials to work with and the marketing groups are brilliant at developing innovative partnership programs with clients. Very creative company with many smart, talented people.

Cons

Extremely demanding, elitist corporate culture and highly politicized environment. You can do excellent work and still have a very hard time here if you don't navigate the politics and your management successfully. Publishers and editors tend to be flamboyant, ego-driven types very hard to work with and sometimes even abusive. Very difficult, stressful environment.

Pros

Great perks (products, parties, name recognition), networking opportunities

Cons

Extremely meager and incredibly late payments for freelancer invoices. They rely on a paper mail invoice system instead of a digital one, so invoices can be more than a month late (Read as: not optimal for anyone who pays rent). Also, work/life balance is virtually impossible.
