Great teamwork within unit. Very fast paced and gratifying dept. Pay is OK. Striving to be a top decile hospital.
Cons
Organization very top heavy. To many changes happen so quickly, buy the time you make the changes they change again. Very hard to make positive changes. Administration is mostly concerned with being right about everything to the point that outside suggestions are nipped in the bud. They do not value Nurses, I feel we are viewed as a necessity. We are forced to work with a skeleton crew. Our department has decreased in size but we have more bosses than ever. Vacation leave policy states we must take 65% of our yearly annual leave, but we are short staffed to the point that a day off is very difficult to get, much less a week. Sick leave is very punitive. No retirement pension plan and the matching plan they have is not good. It seems department heads get bonuses for running lean departments. They are good at recruiting new nurses, but do nothing to retain seasoned experienced nurses. IT changes are not tested out before going live. This results in weeks of chaos resulting in poor patent care and patent dissatisfaction.
