- Turnover: during my tenure at conifer I saw literally almost every senior leadership position turn over, in some cases multiple times. There appears to be no stability within that group and it’s very concerning for middle management on down to the site level. At this point conifer likely has the highest turnover rate amongst leadership roles over the last 5 years in the entire industry, and there are no signs of it slowing down. This also trickles down to the rest of the company - again causing industry leading turnover.
- Transparency: with all the recent changes at the company, there has been little to no involvement with the people who actually operate the sites and company day to day. Strategic plans are constantly changing but never actually execute. This is incredibly frustrating to anyone who is responsible for driving results.
- Role clarity: your role is constantly changing. Oftentimes what people signed up for is not what they end up doing. I’ve spoken with people who get moved between departments against their desire, promised jobs that never materialize and overall struggle to understand their job description. Before considering a job here I’d make sure your job is very specific and there is a commitment to not change it once you’ve joined.
Staffing: many departments struggle to get the staffing support and pay they need to be successful, despite multiple requests to leadership. However, there are other departments that are greatly over staffed and have 10x the amount of people vs our competitors…and don’t seem to be held accountable to the same performance standards. The resources in my opinion are not properly allocated and this makes it very difficult to be successful.
Leadership - the constant turnover with leadership is difficult. Also, this business is a unique one and very heavy on process and operations. In my experience, the current leadership struggles to get along and is most interested in their own image to the company. Part of the group also has little to no experience running a company like this. Ultimately, there have been many talks and conversations amongst the rest of the company expressing concern for leadership’s ability to manage the company effectively. It also doesn’t help that many commitments have not been kept. Numerous times leadership has made commitments to the entire company, only to not meet them and go silent OR change course entirely and not tell anyone. Trust is at an all time low amongst the company.
***I would strongly recommend doing your research before joining Conifer. Dozens of talented and respected people in this industry have come and gone from conifer over the last 5 years. Reach out to one of them, they’re not hard to find, and get an honest assessment of the integrity and work environment you’ll be entering in to.
