Much of the design work that actually makes it to production is based on ego and ugly politics from just a couple of senior designers who have a stranglehold on the process. While there seemed to be a little new buy-in to take user testing seriously, this is the only place I've ever heard someone say (after testing a design with only 8 users,) "Why should we do something that way just because 8 people liked it?" Unfortunately, the minimal testing results from deeply flawed/dishonest tests (from designers) are either ignored or misrepresented.
