Pros

401K contributions, everyday workers, and PTO.

Cons

The executive leadership including the CEO is completely dysfunctional at every level. This company is the worst run company in Michigan. Such an awful place to work. The company is filled with degrees and layers of management that have no idea what they are doing. The MPSC should dismantle Consumers Energy and put the majority of their work in the hands of the private sector. Consumers Energy is an old and antiquated company with extremely bad executive leadership! All of the executives are overpaid and overrated. The executives are fake and political. The culture of the company is awful and toxic! No one really wants to work there, they are there only for the paycheck. The CEO has ruined the company and culture.

Think twice…

Pros

There were many pros for working for this company up until the last year. The vacation time and the benefits are great, and the people are amazing.. but that’s about it.

Cons

This company bases its culture on deception and lies. The upper management is terribly driven to do things solely on cost, regardless of the impacts on their employees, the business and the culture. People have lost their jobs, promotions have been cut, wages and MRVs have been lowered, and more work is being pushed on current employees without any real compensation. The future outlook is uncertain and many people have taken the voluntary separation package recently offered. There was a saying and a belief that was created, “proud to wear the colors”.. and most employees are embarrassed to work for such a deceptive, and self- destructive organization. The current CEO does not care about the employees and their future. Think twice before applying at this company! There are no opportunities for growth and development, no promotions, broken promises, and irrational expectations for success..

Pros

Decent pay and benefits. Not great, but just ok.

Cons

You are not allowed to question or challenge management. The current CEO goes back on his word frequently and rules by fear. He is not a leader, just the boss. For example, when asked during an all employee in 2022 if merit raises would keep up with inflation he flat out said no, but then turned around and took a large raise himself. He said during another all employee meeting there would be no layoffs, but then turns around and rolls out the “pathways program”: essentially a layoff program. He said they wouldn’t mandate a return to being in office, and then announces everyone must work in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. He consistently says one thing and does another.
