Pay Attention to Signs

Pros

There are a lot of opportunities for employees to get additional experience in different l areas outside of their primary role.

Cons

These cons are per my experience... Pay attention to signs. Not the sign of you wanting to work somewhere but the signs ranging from the landscap to the furniture, to the employees, and reviews online. Compensation vs. work is horrible. Underpaid and overworked. But expected to do more and take thank you. This can be tough when your peers at other colleges are making double your salary and only doing one job. But you are constantly asked to give to the annual fund, but no mention of a raise. Retirement is iffy. You can contribute but the college depending on the budget may or may not. There is no money for professional development beyond the local or statewide conferences; this is even a maybe in some cases. Money was always a topic of concern when discussing things that weren't free. If you are the only person in your department or in an essential role it is hard to take a vacation or leave. If you do not conform; you are targeted and singled out. No support. People will purposefully withhold information that is essential to you doing your job. A lot of underhandedness and bias. You become drained quickly. Thank yous come to be a part of the motion; rather than something that is actually meant. It's like working in the twilight zone. Don’t get used to people being there because people leave so quickly once they figure out what is going on.
