Pros

Reasonable hours. Good benefits. Interesting community.

Cons

C-level lacks integrity. Actions do not measure up to rhetoric. Lies abound. Constant turnover top to bottom. Worst code I've seen in a (dis)service essential to the deaf community.

The 2021 Reality of Convo!

Pros

At CONVO, the biggest pro is in direct relation to my peers - the video interpreters. They are what makes Convo culture strong and each and every one of us a unique asset to the company. There used to be a bigger list of pros for this organization, but unfortunately they are running it to the ground as of this year (2021) with an average rate of 2-3 interpreters leaving the company every 1-2 weeks.

Cons

-Poor upper management (horrible roll outs of new policy or company changes with little to no warning about what they are or when they will be implemented, managers seem to get jobs based on nepotism and not actual education in the field, not enough recognition or respect for VI's despite saying they do, the list goes on) -Interpreters never have a seat at the table to help with changes that direct effect them -Horrible compensation (no differentials during ques, veteran interpreters receiving raises of less that $1 after not receiving a raise in years, when raises are given it is because interpreters fought for them but the results are poor and do not keep up with market value / inflation) -Slow PTO accrual -High demand of Deaf callers, low (and continuing to lower) supply of interpreters -Fast burnout of interpreters due to consistent que and not enough call coverage

Pros

VI's and immediate managers are very supportive

Cons

Benefits constantly changing or being reduced. holiday pay is not in line with other competitors and are required to work a holiday a year as a full time employee. Shift differentials are not given during peak hours. Managers not able to be reached due to being overworked/over scheduled. VI's not treated as if they are professionals and know how to do their job. Company policy seems to change at least monthly, if not weekly. Took 4 months of the pandemic before masks were required as part of the companies lack of COVID preparations. No room for career advancement. Job postings are rarely made public, instead C levels select who they want for the position, so job advancement is almost non existent unless you already have a seat at the table or are personal friends.
