No breaks, no talking (or social interactions in general), minimum wage, mentally taxing. You have to constantly work so by the end of it, you want to "garble" yourself.

You start getting "enhanced pay" once you've been doing it a few months and have figured out ways to be fast and accurate. But, the base pay is so pathetic that even "enhancing" it isn't great. Once your speed gets down to, at most, 2.4 times the length of the jobs you scribe (on average), and your inaccuracies are below 15%, you can begin to receive an extra $2 per hour of audio you transcribe. This takes most people around three or four months to get to, I think. In a four hour shift, that ends up being roughly $2 or $3 extra. You can also get an extra dollar per hour for averaging no more than 2 times the length of your jobs, but it takes a while to get there. So, if i work 20 hours a week making base pay, plus $2 per dictation hour, plus an extra $1 per hour for reaching difficult speeds, i would get about $700 a month before taxes, so really more like $650 a month. The job is robotic, strangely tiring, and pays terribly, but it beats cleaning the toilets at a TGI Fridays.
