Pros

- Fully remote, flexible work hours - Excellent people - Great place to gain experience as a software developer - Good benefits - Managers are supportive and invested in helping you succeed and grow - Good annual review process, clearly defined set of criteria for each position's levels (junior, senior, manager, etc.)

Cons

- Because it is private-equity backed, it can sometimes feel like the company is limited in the degree to which it can take risks to try new things. This can also lead to existing projects getting cut or put on indefinite hold in order to re-focus work on more reliable sources of revenue. In the short term this doesn't matter much (it happens a bit at all software companies, and there are still a lot of things to learn at the outset), but in the long-term it can begin to make you feel a little stagnant as a developer. It can be frustrating to be held back from making improvements to a product you care about just because those changes may not bring reliable short-term revenue gains - especially if you notice the competition coming out with those same improvements. It's worth noting that it's possible to apply internally to work in another part of the company (Parallels, CorelDRAW, WinZip, etc.), which could definitely help a person avoid feeling like this.

Pros

You get to work on interesting projects, on a product you can show your Mom. Middle management is pretty good, and colleagues are generally intelligent and friendly.

Cons

Upper management is extremely cost-focused, to the detriment of the long-term health of the product(s) and employee morale. Current owners/investors are not interested in the day-to-day business of writing software.
