Pros

The department I work for is a very considered and understand, fair is the word. We have staff meeting every month, and in those meeting, every subject is brought up. I appreciate that we are all considered important there.

Cons

There's no opening at the moment to apply full time.

Advancement Potential Low

Pros

This is a good place to work if you are not ambitious. Pension and retirement benefits are probably the biggest plus, but you have to stick it out long enough to be eligible. 9/80 and (in some departments) 4/10 work schedules are available.

Cons

Unless you're part of the "in crowd," it is difficult to get noticed and to advance. Job titles do not clearly communicate job duties and the county makes use of many "unofficial" supervisors who have direct reports, but lack the title, authority, or salary of a supervisor. This makes it difficult to have your skills, competencies, and experience recognized if you wish to compete for roles both within the organization and in the private sector.
